The Birth of a Universe: Unraveling Kenoma’s Cosmogony

Hatchlings of the Cosmic Egg, known collectively as the Shi’ur Qomah: the building blocks of reality, and the forces that keep it running. They are:

  1. Abraxas, the Aetheric Demiurge.
  2. Akudim, the Temporal Engine.
  3. Nekudim, the Spatial Song.
  4. Berudim, the Scourge of Gravity
  5. Merkavah, Energy’s Vessel
  6. Hekhal, the Domain of Matter.
  7. Ein Sof, the Emanation of Light.
  8. Rachabh, the Primogenitor of Darkness.
  9. Gashmi, the Odic Flame.
  10. Shâchath, the Champion of Entropy.

Abraxas, the Aetheric Demiurge

Abraxas, the Aetheric Demiurge (hermaphrodite), revered as The One and Grand Architect, embodies the sustaining principle of the cosmos. Perceived mundanely as everything, it appears to the occult eye as an androgynous aether-born ultraorganism with a three-eyed saber-toothed lion’s head and ten thousand geometric wings. Its tentacled legs hold the Wheel of Ages, a crystalline cup of magic, and an astral chart, while its hands bear the Augoeides (a hollow orb) and a branch of Etz Autozoon, ringed by seven swarms of rainbow eyes. Objective yet curious and affectionate toward its descendants, it rules in the Godhead from a throne of glittering goldfish, borne by a nine-tailed fox atop a floating jellyfish amid snow, maple leaves, and trillions of hummingbirds.

Akudim, the Temporal Engine

Akudim, the Temporal Engine (Male) —also called Wheel-Bearer, the Clockmaker, Chronos/Janus, and Guardian of the North—embodies time itself. To the mundane eye he is the passage of time; to the supernatural, a cyborg tortoise forged from timekeeping devices of every era. Seven alternate Wheels of Ages hover above him, while a blazing core of digital, solar, and analog clocks churns within his shell. Detached from everyday concerns yet urgent about cosmic stakes, he dwells in the Darkness Between the Stars, where his idol reflects and blends each visitor’s age.

Nekudim, the Spatial Song

Nekudim, the Spatial Song (Female) —also called Omnipresent, the Tripodal Chanteuse, Gates of the Silver Key, Continuum Woman.  Mundanely she is space itself; supernaturally, a twenty-winged pheasant fused with a three-legged insect, whose feathers are infinite locations and body the radioactive void.Seven sealed doors of pure disorientation perpetually orbit her. Cosmopolitan and gossipy about the Augoeides, she dwells in the Darkness Between the Stars, where her idol speaks in twenty overlapping voices from behind the listener.

Berudim, the Scourge of Gravity

Berudim, the Scourge of Gravity (Male)—Bender of Stars, Atlas, and Guardian of the East—embodies gravitational force. Mundanely he is gravity’s effects; supernaturally, an ultraorganic anaconda with a vampire-squid head, armored in pressure spikes, hooks of silence, jaws of stillness, and oppressive cirri.
His scales are infinitely crushing g-force, with seven black holes strung along his spine. Loud, domineering, and cantankerous, he dwells in the Darkness Between the Stars, where his idol roars with ear-splitting authority.

Merkavah, Energy’s Vessel

Merkavah, Energy’s Vessel (Female)—also called Quintessence and Diamond Thunderbolt—is the Guardian of the West. Mundanely she is energy itself; supernaturally, an ultraorganic paper tigress forever scorched and remade by crackling bursts, ringed by seven glass chariots. Her temperament flips between a drowsy, submissive courtesan and a frenetic, comedic, distractible speed freak. In the Darkness Between the Stars, her idol unpredictably radiates waves of scorching heat or freezing cold.

Hekhal, Domain of Matter

Hekhal, Domain of Matter (Male)—called the Unfleshed One and the Twenty-Two Seals—is the Guardian of the Northwest. Mundane perception: matter; supernatural: an ultraorganic chimera existing in every state, built from magnified forms of every element (hippo–elephant–croc–paracerathere). Seven fragile stardust cups filled with pure energy orbit his mass. Deferential yet craven with a brittle ego, his idol in the Darkness Between the Stars incessantly shifts the state of all vril nearby.

Ein Sof, the Emanation of Light

Ein Sof, the Emanation of Light (Female)—Endless/Concealed One and Guardian of the Northeast—embodies light itself. Mundane perception is simply light; supernaturally she’s a faceless, searing wisp with six crane legs, ten firefly wings, and seven white trees that trail her, each casting twenty laser beams. Warm and grandmotherly yet fiercely intolerant of falsehood, secrecy, and obfuscation. In the Darkness Between the Stars, her idol blasts blinding, omnidirectional white radiance.

Rachabh, the Primogenitor of Darkness

Rachabh, Primogenitor of Darkness (Male)—Abyss, Mask of the Blind, Shadowbirther, Guardian of the Southwest—embodies darkness itself. Mundanely he is darkness; supernaturally, a chimera of cave hyena, stalk-eyed fly, basking shark, viperfish, and raven, wreathed in absolute night. Seven invisible fires orbit his form. A wise, predatory provocateur who revels in terror and gruesome truths, he dwells in the Darkness Between the Stars, where his idol strips visitors of their Da’as Tachton.

Gashmi, the Odic Flame

Gashmi, the Odic Flame (Female)—also called Abiogenesis, the Golden Bough, the Burning Bush, and Guardian of the Southeast—embodies suns. To the supernatural eye she’s a flaming walking tree, an ultraorganic fusion of elk, mustelid, cuttlefish, and cuckoo, orbited by seven blood orbs and trailing life-sparking ash. Cheerful and enamored of beauty in all non-Diabolic beings, she is physically attracted to every hayyoth. In the Darkness Between the Stars, her idol induces aphrodisiac effects in all onlookers.

Shâchath, the  Champion of Entropy

Shâchath, the  Champion of Entropy (Genderless)—known as the Dweller on the Threshold and Nihil—embodies decay and unraveling. Mundane perception is simply entropy’s effects; supernaturally it is a vermiform mass of black mold and mud with a blade-toothed maw, a single catastrophic eye, and seven spiked, melancholic armors in orbit. It seethes with vitriolic hatred for all things and feels an instinctive pull to reunite with the Devils. In the Rot of the World, its presence is total darkness, freezing cold, the stench of offal and bone dust, and the uncanny touch of flayed flesh.
