Supernatural Sandstorm Deploys Over Ouroboran Caliphate

Sandalphon 14, 1790 —A cataclysmic meteorological event, now designated the “Iblic Scourge,” has engulfed the Sheikhanates of Albedo, Ouroboran Caliphate [1]. This is not a natural occurrence; the storm is a cyclonic vortex of superheated air, tangible flames, and toxic dust. Reports indicate the phenomenon poses an existential threat to the population and infrastructure, prompting an immediate public safety and disaster prevention alert across the region.

A state of emergency is being considered for the Sheikhanates of Albedo. The Iblic Scourge, which appeared without warning, has disrupted all conventional systems. The storm’s core temperatures are well above lethal levels, and its composition is causing widespread and unprecedented suffocation, even for those in fortified structures. Initial observations suggest a dangerous fusion of natural elements with arcane forces.

Beyond the Written Words, the Story Unfolds:

The Caliph, Shahanshah, Padishah, and Sultan of Sultans, Dânêl, is expected to issue a formal directive to the Ouroboran populace imminently. The traditionalist, Dieselpunk society of the Caliphate now faces a crisis that challenges both their technological resilience and their deeply held religious convictions, as the storm’s origins are believed to be beyond the mortal realm.

The Iblic Scourge is a phenomenon that defies explanation by mundane meteorology. On-the-ground sensors have registered an unearthly energy signature from within the vortex, consistent with a breach of cosmological boundaries. The storm is believed to be a temporary interplanar intersection, where elements from other planes of existence are bleeding into Kenoma. The toxic nature of the air and the acrid smell of sulfur and smoke suggest a connection to Moloch’s “Land of Brimstone” or the poisonous miasma of Azazel’s “pagoda of poisonous gases,” a theory gaining traction among Thaumaturgical scholars.

The storm’s most terrifying feature is the presence of tangible, solid fire, which appears as burning embers and particles suspended within the dust clouds. This is a direct manifestation of Pyromancy’s Red Magic. The creation of Elementals, an aspect of Black Magic, is another possible explanation, where the storm itself is a living elemental of immense power. These supernatural properties are what make the storm so lethal, as it not only burns but also consumes the very energy that sustains life.

The storm’s effect on the populace is both physical and psychological. The suffocating heat and toxic gases are causing rapid casualties among those caught in the open. The sheer terror of a storm that breathes fire and poisons the very air has sent citizens into a state of panic, leading to a breakdown in communication and an increase in calls for religious leaders to intervene.

The crisis has put the leadership of the Ouroboran Caliphate under intense scrutiny. As the supreme religious and political head, Caliph Dânêl’s response will shape the narrative of the event. Many Altifanist citizens view the scourge as a test of faith, a divine trial orchestrated by Cthugha’s Seraphim [2]. This interpretation frames the suffering as a form of purification.

Conversely, other factions within the Caliphate fear this is a sign of diabolic influence, a punishment from Moloch [3] or Azazel [4] for some unknown transgression. This divergence in belief is a significant geopolitical concern, as different interpretations could lead to internal strife or a call for drastic, and potentially violent, religious acts of appeasement. The Caliphate’s unified faith is being challenged by an event that seems to embody the very devils it tolerates.

Official Statements and Safety Directives

An emergency broadcast from the Caliphate’s government was transmitted to all remaining communication hubs in Albedo. The message, read by a senior official, emphasized caution and compliance.

“This meteorological event is of an unprecedented nature. Citizens must understand the gravity of the situation. The storm is not merely a force of wind and sand; it is a force of supernatural power. To interact with it is to face certain death. Stay indoors. Seal your doors and windows. Do not, under any circumstances, attempt to venture outside. Wait for further instructions. Your safety and survival are our paramount concerns.”

The broadcast also included a directive for all diesel-powered facilities to shut down non-essential operations to conserve resources. Engineers are attempting to stabilize the power grids that rely on Ramiel and Arakiel, but the intense heat is causing widespread failures.

The Iblic Scourge has already caused extensive damage to the region’s Dieselpunk infrastructure. Buildings have been scorched, vehicles melted, and communication lines severed. The storm’s chaotic nature is making damage assessment difficult, but preliminary estimates suggest the damage will be catastrophic. Long-term environmental consequences are also a major concern; the landscape may be rendered uninhabitable by the toxic and magical residue left in the storm’s wake.

The storm’s path is erratic, moving in a cyclonic pattern that makes prediction challenging. As the crisis evolves, the focus remains on the immediate survival of the population and the long-term stability of the Ouroboran Caliphate. The event is a grim reminder of the fine line between the natural and the supernatural in Kenoma and the constant vigilance required to navigate this volatile world.

Notes extracted from the Kenomitian Compendium

[1] Ouroboran Caliphate: a Diesel Punk and extremely traditionalist theocracy, where a myriad of tribes, lineages and civilizations have been brought together by the flames of a mighty angel named Dânêl: Caliph, Shahanshah, Padishah and Sultan of Sultans. It’s divided in seven regions: the Sultanate of Nigredo, the Sheikhanates of Albedo, the Malikate of Citrinitas, the Shahnate of Rubedo, the Emirates of Rebis, the Taifas of Arcandam (the Caliphate’s extra-dimensional colonies), and the Buraqate of Ishraq (the Caliphate’s extra-planetary colonies).

[3] Moloch, Devil of Conflagrations—Baleful, Fire-Touched, the Blazing Conqueror—rules destructive flame. He appears as a lava Gigantopithecus with a ruby-aurochs head and eight serpentlike wings of smokeless fire. Despotic, sadistic, and pyromaniacal, he commands Shārāp Me’ōpêp: foul oil-fountains with ruby eyes that breathe fire, vomit lava, and mimic burned flesh. He reigns over the Land of Brimstone—volcanoes, lava rivers, fire rain, ash—dwelling in a lake of fire linked by lava pools to Baal-al-Balab, Enthymēsis, Beulah, Tohu, and the rest of Tikun.

[4] Azazel, Deviless of Pollution—also called Noxious, Toxic Nimbus, the Choking Queen, and Fouler of Heavens—embodies smog and taint. She appears as a cloud of poisonous smoke shaped like an emaciated bat-woman: opal vulture head above, box-jellyfish body below. Miserly, intrusive, and psychotically egotistical, she revels in phlegm’s flavor, plague-cough “music,” and the taste of shriveled lungs. Her Ziz demons are opal smoke clouds that can inhabit corpses, and her bastion—the moon-sized Hundred Clouds gas pagoda over a toxic river—links by mist walls to Dijing, Enthymēsis, Beulah, Tohu, and the rest of Tikun.
